Alternative Coatings
Innovating Beyond Plastic for a Circular Future
Sustainable coating innovation is at the heart of everything we do. Through years of research and development, we’ve introduced two trusted coating options that meet industry standards, deliver excellent performance, and support recyclability or compostability within existing waste systems. Because better cups start with better materials.
Certified Compostable
Europe’s Leading Manufacturer of Compostable Paper Cups
CupPrint was the first company in Europe to offer certified compostable paper cups, and today, we’re proud to be the continent’s largest producer. Since 2010, we’ve been supplying customers across Europe and around the world with cups that are engineered for circularity.
Our compostable cups use a plant-based PLA (polylactic acid) bio-coating as a moisture barrier – a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic linings. Certified to EN13432 standards, these cups are 100% compostable in industrial composting conditions and, in many regions, can be disposed of through food waste and brown bin collection schemes.
Cup Print is the first company in Europe to offer these cups.
- Certified to EN13432 and Cré Standards (Ireland) for industrial compostability
- Available in both single-wall and double-wall formats to suit hot and cold drinks
- Made from food-grade virgin and recycled paper sourced from responsibly managed forests
- Manufactured in a BRCGS AA-rated High Hygiene facility, ensuring top-tier safety and quality
Certified Recyclable
Specifically engineered to recycle
CupPrint is the first company in Europe to offer revolutionary certified-as-recyclable double-wall coffee cups. They’re the first paper cups to achieve AAA certification by the Institute Cyclos-HTP in conjunction with the European Green Dot scheme. Part of our offering since 2017, these recyclable paper coffee cups are specifically engineered to be processed alongside regular mixed paper and cardboard waste.

Responsible Sourcing
At CupPrint, we use recycled materials wherever food safety regulations allow. And since 2019, we’ve held both PEFC and FSC certifications, confirming that all virgin and recycled paperboard used in our cups (excluding lids) comes from sustainably managed forests. These certifications reflect our long-standing commitment to ethical sourcing and environmental responsibility.
Sustainable Future
We’re not just keeping up — we’re pushing forward. At CupPrint, we’re investing in new materials, smarter processes, and closed-loop solutions to help shape a future where every cup is part of the circular economy.
Zero Waste Achievement
Circularity initiatives are a team effort, and we’re proud to play our part with some of the most successful cup recycling schemes in Europe.
We are active participants in supporting powerful recycling initiatives, like The Cup Collective, which operates through the EU, the UK’s National Cup Recycling Scheme, and the Irish Paper Packaging for Circularity Alliance (IPPCA).
Renewable Energy Use
As Europe’s largest supplier of compostable paper cups, CupPrint is committed to minimising our environmental impact through responsible waste and water management, recycling, and sourcing sustainability-certified materials.
A key part of this commitment is energy management. Our primary facility in Ennis, Ireland, is certified by Energia as powered entirely by 100% certified renewable energy sources. This transition significantly reduces our carbon footprint and supports Ireland’s clean energy goals, ensuring our production runs on sustainable power every day.
